What is CoLab (ICPL)?

CoLab is a face/virtual workshop that proposes new investigation methodologies. The aim is to create groups which can work collaboratively and interdisciplinary. That means: develop research tools in which different areas of knowledge are working coordinated and horizontally. The workshop is focused on the students and professional who are interested on experimenting with interdisciplinary projects and the current international academical research methodologies.

This new research methodology is being currently developed (face/virtual workshops) by Medialab-Prado in Madrid and have already been successfully put in to praxis in various fields such as Government Agencies and Universities.

In this case, in the context of the European Film Festival of Sudan the aim is to extend these methodologies to new spaces of creation and thought.

Calls

-1st call: Call for projects/ideas. For people or work groups who want to submit a proposal. 10 proposals will be selected. [read the call]

At least one selected project must be connected with the European Film Festival 11 Sudan or with the audiovisual field.

Deadline: October 31, 2011 November 10, 2011

-2nd call: Call for collaborators/participants. Once projects are selected, a second call for collaborators will be published for those who want to take part in their collaborative development. Registrations: November 3 12 - 27, 2011

Who can apply?

Applying to the Call for projects/ideas: Any person, working group or entity intending to develop any investigation project that needs the collaboration of experts from other fields of knowledge. The there are two different forms to participate: applying as a project leader with a project (1st call, aimed at) or as collaborator/participant in selected projects (2nd call, aimed at specialists and partners for each project in Sudan.)

Applying to the Call for collaborators/participants: Any person interested in collaborating in the projects will be able to join them anytime. During the workshops work teams will be set up and collaborators' tasks will be distributed.

Profiles: film makers, multimedia students, IT, communication science, publicity, artists, writers, and any person -creators and researchers- interested on Cinema and Visual Communication.

This same URL will host forums and wikis related to each one of the projects so that in the previous period to the workshop the collaborators can contact each other, present their profiles and solve all the questions related to each project.

An intensive face-to-face workshops will be held at the University of Khartoum During the dates: 28 november - 1 december, 2011 from 10am to 12am and from 13pm to 15pm. Professors invited: Karla Brunet and Juan Freire. With the assistance of Gabriel Perezzan and Aurea Martínez.

CoLab + EFF

As any other creative and theoretical discipline, cinema grows and transforms through the interference of the other knowledge branches -History of Art is the clearest example of that-. Every language emerges from these necessary interferences. In the current times, to be contemporary means to be aware of this premise. The stimulation of this interaction makes even more sense in the societies that keep their knowledge in a certain standstill. CoLab is a platform to study the society of knowledge in which we are immersed. 

Normal education consists on a one way relation between teacher and student. The student learns what the educator is teaching him/her… On the contrary CoLab introduces a new research methodology that consist on inquiring the student what do they want to research, the teachers adapt to each research and help the student on finding information, tools and collaborators for the development and final implementation of each project.

This methodology proposes a way of managing knowledge in a more horizontal manner which dilutes the traditional roles of the educator and the learner, the transmission of knowledge and power hierarchies. It also encourages responsibility and autonomy of each working group and individual.

LICP will work on 10 parallel projects that will be designed, directed and coordinated by Sudanese stakeholders with the assistance of a group of European experts. The simultaneous development of these 10 projects will create synergies between the participants while the involvement of information and experience will be a comprehensive learning exercise for all the participants.
