Topics include:

  • Future technologies in a post digital age
  • New forms of creative practice
  • Mobile technologies for audience engagement
  • Creative ways to model ‘art’ as engaging interactive audience experiences.
Taking the theme of Immersive and Responsive technologies, the event will explore how to collaborate on new tools, devices and systems to transform many spheres of life, from the arts to democracy.

Speakers include:
  • Will Saunders, Executive Producer, BBC Comedy: will share some of the ways that the BBC has been experimenting with new forms of storytelling and showing why no matter what the platform it’s always the story that must cut through.
  •  Mark Brill, Strategist and Consultant for Mobile, Innovation and Creative Technologies: will debate why ‘brands need artists’, and how opportunities from the ‘maker movement’ and use of creative technologies can disrupt brand thinking and deliver better experiences that can improve our lives.
  • Chris Sugrue, New York based artist and programmer developing interactive installations, audio-visual performances and experimental interfaces: will explore the concept of “openness” and provide a more critical evaluation of “making” and the merits of DIY approach to tech.
  •  Maarika Susi, Tallinn based Marketing Manager, Garage 48 Foundation: will help us to explore the nature of the Hackathon ideology and Maker Movement, debating whether it is truly transformative, or are they just a distraction, void of any true social effect?
  • Dr Steve Harding, Head of Innovation Policy, Birmingham City University: will look at the ‘future of cities’, not just determined by the pragmatism of efficiency and sustainability but the urban also being a place for imagination, experimentation and serendipity: we need our cities to remain unpredictable and full of possibility.

The day will also include Q&A sessions, debates and networking opportunities. There will also be an opportunity to observe and inform the work of the seven Interactivos? Birmingham selected projects.

Devised by Medialab-Prado in Madrid and recognised as a model of best practice, Interactivos? is a global platform connecting an international network of creative and digital experts. Cross pollinating with the arts, innovation and future technology it provides a successful framework both in the UK and abroad for technological production.
