As part of the cycle of introductory workshops for the usage of digital fabrication tools and machines at Medialab-Prado’s Fablab, it is now the turn of the big format CNC routing/milling machine.
CNC milling/routing machines are machines that are capable of moving a toolhead in three axes at the same time (X,Y,Z) along a predefined three dimensional route. Starting from a 2D design or a 3D model, generated by a CAD software, we generate a path to be followed by the toolhead for cutting and/or milling.
The CNC router is commonly used for cutting, milling or engraving different materials such as wood, metal, plastics, fiberglass, etc. It can also be used for mold making. At the Fablab we have a big format CNC machine, that we use among other things, to make furniture for the building.
If you would like to know more about how this machine works, and learn about it’s uses, come join us at our introductory workshop to CNC milling/routing.
