IN-SONORA: Expanded Listening

"La Escucha Expandida" (Expanded Listening), presented by IN-SONORA at Medialab Prado, uses sound as the starting point for exploring and invading other creative areas: installations, performance art, and live concerts. Two contemporary creators with high quality, intense personal work linked to the use of sound from this expanded perspective have been invited to present their work. The artists are: Pablo A. Padilla (Madrid), an architect and sound artist who will take on altering space through soundscapes, and Bárbara González Barrera (Chile), an audiovisual artist, will use performance art to focus on sound, light, corporeal and spatial connections for the presentation.

 

· Pablo A. Padilla (Spain): Altering Space through Soundscapes

The artist’s relationship with architecture led him to work with sound installations, where he can explore the most spatial part of sound, and its interaction with other perceptive stimuli, creating a complete sensorial scene. Pablo A. Padilla Jargstorf presents his work with soundscapes and the relation among various stimuli of our senses, centred on spatial perception through sound and synaesthesia.

· Bárbara González Barrera (Chile): Sound-Visual Assemblies

 

Action areas: sound, light, corporeal and spatial connections for the production.

Bárbara González Barrera talks about her work process based on performance art, which she defines as “sound-visual assemblies”. Sound, light, corporeal and spatial connections for a production where the body is the engine in the mechanism that functions as just one more piece in this sound-visual assembly.

Themes: Sound-visual assemblies, rhizomatic actions, and light and sound sheet music as the script.

Support material consists of photographic, video and sketch records of Destellos en el tempo, performance art/installation to be exhibited at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, in the context of IN-SONORA. Saturday 17 March at 7:30 pm on the 5th floor (Nouvel Building).

Coordinator:
IN-SONORA, a legally constituted association on the national level since 2005, plays an important role in the support and dissemination of the emerging art that is most committed to experimentation and new media. Each year, IN-SONORA designs and coordinates an International Sound and Interactive Art Exhibit. This is its seventh year. It also curates other projects and organizes educational programmes with workshops, artistic residences and meetings, in conjunction with similar projects or public and private institutions interested in supporting these proposals.
