Ana Esteve Reig - The Neverending Story

Ana Esteve Reig (Agres, 1986) is a video artist, filmmaker and associate professor at the University. She has studied Fine Arts at the UCM and at the Kunsthochschule Kassel, where she also completed a postgraduate degree.  Through her video art productions, the artist addresses issues such as the construction of social archetypes, the dichotomy between reality and fiction, and social dynamics in virtual reality. Interested in fiction, Esteve Reig approaches the role of the individual as a subject that belongs to a collective and complex reality through its cultural manifestations, rites and customs.

Her work has been awarded the BBVA Multiverse Scholarship for the Creation of Video Art and has received production grants from both the Ministry of Culture and Sport and the Community of Madrid. He has recently had solo exhibitions at the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum in Madrid and the DA2 Artium in Salamanca. Her work has also been exhibited in important institutions such as the Instituto Valencià d'Art Modern de Alcoi and the Espai d'Art Contemporani de Castelló (EACC), among others. She is represented by the Luis Adelantado Valencia Gallery.

About the project

“The neverending story” is a research project, from an audiovisual and artistic point of view, which seeks to know experiences of eSports players and gamers, with the intention of questioning what importance and value has, in this case, life in a virtual environment such as video games. The research will end with the production of a video that addresses this issue. One of the concepts to be explored is how playing a video game is a cathartic act in which one dies and revives continuously, always having the possibility of reviving and trying again. Being this virtual experience an act similar to reincarnation, a concept raised in many Eastern religions. Ana Esteve's intention is to show this point as something positive, since the virtual scenario gives us the opportunity to try again and improve.
