XenoVisual Studies (XVS)

XenoVisual Studies (XVS) is an emerging network of artistic and critical experimentation that, throughout its first year, has been dedicated to exploring the frictions and fusions between the strange and the technological that transform the contemporary visual landscape and challenge conventional perceptions of identity, reality and society. It is a permeable collective co-founded by Pilar del Puerto, Esther Rizo and Mar Osés, joined by Aníbal Hernández and Andreas Daiminger for the CRA.  Their proposals have been supported by the Spanish Ministry of Equality and the Complutense University, among other institutions, and they have been invited to present their work in several universities and cultural centers in Spain, Argentina, France, Germany and Greece.

About the project

The project “Algorithmic Alienation and Xeno-Tuning” by XenoVisual Studies (XVS) explores the intersection between art, technology and gender perspective. It uses machine learning algorithms to explore the new visualities that emerge from the use of these technologies, with the aim of moving away from normative representations and constituting what they call: xeno-visuality. Through co-creation workshops, the collective hacks the visible, confronting the gender biases present in the data and exploring spaces of potentiality. The project seeks to foster and build a community of experimentation around this concept.
